Future Homes Standards: questions for your London project

Reviewed 7 October 2026 · England · Regulation update

The government published Building Circular 01/2026 on 24 March 2026. Before agreeing a project specification, ask building control which requirements and transitional arrangements apply to your work.

What to check

  • Whether the project is a new dwelling, an extension or work to an existing building.
  • Which Approved Documents apply to its energy efficiency and ventilation.
  • Whether application and commencement dates affect transitional arrangements.
  • What evidence building control needs before work begins.

Publication and commencement are different dates. Do not assume that every new standard already applies to every renovation.
