A short seasonal inspection can help you spot small problems before winter. Walk around your home, make a note of changes and plan repairs in order of urgency.
Five practical checks
- From ground level, look for overflowing gutters, loose downpipes and water marks. Arrange professional access for work at height.
- Check window and door seals for visible gaps and worn finishes.
- Look for new damp marks after rain and record where and when they appear. Resolve the cause before repainting.
- Keep ventilation openings clear and use extraction where fitted.
- Photograph changing cracks and damaged finishes so you can explain the problem when requesting an inspection.
A visual checklist is not a structural inspection. Sudden or growing cracks, falling materials and significant leaks need an appropriate professional assessment.
